Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team split a CCIW doubleheader with Millikin University on Saturday afternoon at Ruth Leedy Field. Wheaton earned a 7-5 victory in the first game and Millikin forced the split with a 3-1 win in game two. Wheaton (13-10/2-4 CCIW) will remain in conference play for a doubleheader at Augustana College on Tuesday April 16.

Each team scored two runs in its respective portion of the first inning, with Wheaton freshman

Wheaton took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as
Alyssa Leonard drove in a run on a bunt. The Thunder added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a RBI-double by Teuben to account for the 7-5 final score.
Millikin won the day's final game 3-1 as the Big Blue scored three runs, on six hits, with one error and Wheaton scored one run, on nine hits, with three errors. Thunder starting pitcher
Danielle Schmidt (7-5) took the loss in six innings. She allowed three runs, on six hits, with eight strikeouts and no walks. Cladis was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a stolen base. Leonard was 2-for-3, with a double and a RBI.
Millikin took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Wheaton tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning as Leonard hit a RBI-single. The Big Blue regained the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
