Kenosha, Wis.-
The Wheaton Thunder softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Carthage Lady Reds on Friday. Wheaton was held to just one hit in a 6-0 loss in game one and dropped game two by a score of 5-2. Wheaton is now 12-9 overall and 1-3 in CCIW play. The Thunder will host Millikin in a CCIW doubleheader tomorrow at Ruth Leedy Field starting at 1 PM.

Carthage took advantage of several Wheaton fielding errors to push across an unearned run in the first and second innings. After another run in the third, Carthage broke the game open with a two-run home run in the fifth inning by Abby Hanson to make it 5-0. Carthage added their final run in the sixth inning. Wheaton managed a runner in five of the seven innings but their only hit came on a Stacey Cladis single in the fourth inning.

The Lady Reds jumped ahead in game two of the doubleheader with two runs in the top of the second, one in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth. Wheaton led off the bottom of the fifth inning with consecutive singles by Anne Kelley and Katie Yergler before a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Goeke moved them into scoring position. Christina Sandstedt brought home both runners with a double to right center to cut the lead to 5-2. Sandstedt would wind up stranded at second and the 5-2 lead held as the final score.

Yergler was 3-3 and Cladis was 2-3 in game two.
