GAME STATS 1 | GAME STATS 2 Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder softball team hosted Hope College (8-8) for the first home doubleheader of the 2013 season on Thursday afternoon. Hope was a 5-3 victor in game one and the Flying Dutch won the second game 6-1. Wheaton is now 7-3 on the year and will host Lake Forest College on Saturday at 1 PM in a doubleheader at Ruth Leedy Field.

Hope won the first game 5-3 as the visitors scored five runs, on nine hits, with one error and Wheaton plated three runs, on eight hits, with two errors. Thunder starting pitcher Danielle Schmidt (4-1) took the loss in seven innings of work as she allowed nine hits, with four strikeouts and six walks.

Freshman centerfielder Katie Yergler was 3-for-4 at the plate, with a run scored and a RBI. Christina Sandstedt drove in a pair of runs, hitting a double.  Alyssa Leonard was 1-for-2, with a run scored and a walk.

Hope was a 6-1 victor in the second game as the Flying Dutch scored six runs, on 10 hits, with one error and Wheaton plated one run, on six hits, with three errors. Thunder starting pitcher Katie Thornton (2-2) took the loss in seven innings. She allowed six runs, including five earned runs, on 10 hits, with nine strikeouts and four walks.

Sandstedt was 3-for-3 at the plate, with a double and run driven in. Singles by Jessica Goeke, Stacey Cladis and Leonard accounted for Wheaton three other hits in the game.
