GAME STATS 2 Fort Myers, Fla. - The Wheaton College softball team opened its 2013 season on Monday with a pair of victories at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. Wheaton opened with a 13-2 victory against Albright College and the Thunder wrapped up Monday's action with a 5-1 victory against Bridgewater State College.
The Thunder (2-0) will take on St. Joseph's College (Maine) and Franklin & Marshall in Tuesday's scheduled games.
In the season-opening win against Albright, Wheaton scored 13 runs on 16 hits and Albright collected two runs, on four hits. Senior pitcher
Danielle Schmidt served as Wheaton's starting pitcher. She allowed two runs, on four hits, with three strikeouts. Freshman
Katie Thornton pitched two innings of relief, with no runs allowed and no hits.

Katie Yergler was 4-for-4 at the plate against Albright with a stolen base.
Alyssa Leonard was 3-for-4, hitting three singles. Sophomore
Becky Leone was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Freshman infielder
Christina Sandstedt was 2-for-3 with a double. Junior
Stacey Cladis was 1-for-2, with a double and three RBI.
In the second game, Wheaton scored five runs on 10 hits and Bridgewater State plated one run on three hits. The Thunder collected five hits and four runs in the fifth inning to help secure the win.
Schmidt earned the win in seven innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, with four strikeouts. Yergler continued her strong play against BSC with three singles to hit 3-for-4 in the game. Sophomore
Abby Coster hit two singles, scoring a pair of runs.
Yergler was 7-for-8 at the plate on Monday with four runs scored.
Alyssa Leonard was 4-for-5, scoring four runs. Catcher
Ellen Radandt threw out two baserunners on stolen base attempts on the day.
