Wheaton falls to Hope College 64-37 in First Round of NCAA-III WBB Tournament

GAME STATS Holland, Mich.- Making its first appearance in the NCAA-III Tournament since 2007, the Wheaton women's basketball team fell at Hope College 64-37 on Friday night. Wheaton finishes the season with a record of 22-6, its first 20-win season since the 2006-07 campaign. Hope advances to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament with a record of 27-1.

Wheaton was 16-for-47 (34%) from the field and 1-for-9 (11.1%) from the three-point line. Wheaton struggled from the free throw line, shooting just 4-for-13 (30.8%). Hope was 24-of-61 (39.3%) from the field while shooting 7-for-14 (50%) from the three-point line and 9-of-15 (60%) from the charity stripe. Hope won the rebounding battle 43-35.
 
Wheaton got off to a quick start, silencing the large pro-Hope crowd. Jumpers by Brooke Olson (PICTURED LEFT) and Jenn Lee and a lay-up by Hannah Considine got the Thunder off to a 6-2 lead. Hope responded with a barrage of three-pointers from Brittany Berry. Berry connected on three consecutive deep balls to give Hope an 11-6 lead.
 
The Thunder responded by scoring the next five points to tie the game at 11-11 with 10:58 remaining in the first half. The Flying Dutch responded with a 12-0 run to take a lead that the hosts would not relinquish. An Ellie Zeller jumper cut the lead back to single digits at 23-15 but Hope closed the half with an extended 14-6 run to lead 39-21 at the intermission. Brittany Berry paced the Flying Dutch attack by making six first half three-pointers, while Hope as a team was 7-for-10 from behind the three-point arc.

An early run by the Thunder temporarily silenced the crowd and cut the lead back to 43-29, but Hope answered with a 10-2 run and coasted to the 64-37 victory.
 
Hannah Considine was the only Thunder player to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points. Ellie Zeller had seven points and Breanna Bohlen (PICTURED RIGHT) added six points. Maris Hovee led Wheaton with eight rebounds.
                                                                       
Note worthy: Five of Wheaton's six losses this season came to teams that won an NCAA First Round game on Friday night…Brooke Olson finished her career fourth on Wheaton's all-time assists list (367), ninth in steals (187), sixth in made free throws (269), second in made three-pointers (165) and ninth in scoring (1136 points)…Olson set a new school record with 67 made three-pointers and Bohlen finished in seventh place on the single season three-point list with 55…Breanna Bohlen finished her career seventh in career three-pointers made (132)…Maris Hovee's 239 rebounds this season was the fourth highest single season total in school history…Hannah Considine's 54.8% field goal shooting this season is the fourth highest percentage in school history…Considine's 261 points is the 10th highest single season point total by a freshman in school history.
