Thunder set to host CCIW Swimming Championships

Wheaton, Ill.- Streaks will be on the line this weekend when Chrouser Natatorium hosts the CCIW Championships. The Wheaton women's swim team will look to continue its streak of 15 consecutive CCIW Championships while the Thunder men's swim team will try to end Carthage's five-year reign atop the CCIW.

The Wheaton women will look to continue their decade and a half of dominance behind the strong swimming of several individuals. Jamie Walitsch (PICTURED RIGHT) highlights the Thunder as the defending CCIW Champion in both the 400-yard individual medley and also the 200-yard backstroke.

Kirsty Nitz has ruled the pool throughout the season posting team best times in nine different events. Nitz currently holds the top national time in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200 yard-backstroke, and 100-yard butterfly. Additionally Nitz has turned in a national Top 30 time in four other events.

Katie Deysher has turned in a Top 30 times in both the 200-yard and 400-yard individual medley, positioning herself as a frontrunner in each event.

Carlie Herich has turned in Top 30 times in three events but injuries may hamper her bit for multiple event wins.

Head coach Jon Lederhouse expects a very competitive races in the relays on both the men's and women's side, "Right now its is just so close on both genders that it could easily swing either way."

Wills Francis (PICTURED LEFT) headlines the Thunder on the men's side as the defending CCIW champion in the 100-yard backstroke and the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle.

Hayes Wilkerson will look to defend his championship in the 200-yard freestyle, as well as anchoring the relay teams.

Jon Lait and Elliot Penson will challenge each other as well as the rest of the conference for supremacy in both the individual medley events as well as the 200-yard breast stroke.

Event Seating Policy

Spectator seating for the 2013 CCIW Swimming Championships is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Seat saving will not be permitted. The CCIW reserves the right to address that policy if it leads to any disruption, complaints or arguments amongst spectators. Such behavior will also be grounds for expulsion from the venue, without refund, for the duration of that session and/or the remainder of Championship weekend.
