Wheaton, Ill. – The fifth-ranked Wheaton men's basketball team opened its 2013-14 season on Friday night with a 78-46 victory against Blackburn College in the opening night of the 2013 Lee Pfund Classic Tournament. Wheaton will host Wittenberg University on Saturday night at 8 PM in the tournament's championship game. Wittenberg defeated UW-River Falls 69-62 in the tonight's first game.

Tyler Peters led the Thunder with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and he added three assists. Sophomore forward
Michael Berg registered his first career "double-double" with 10 points and 11 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.
Senior
Spencer McCreary scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds for the Thunder. Junior
Peter Smith scored eight points, with a 3-of-3 effort from the floor. Sophomore
Riley Teuscher added eight points off of the Wheaton bench.
Chris Davis led Blackburn with a game-high 21 points and five rebounds. Evan Wells and Matt Chandler each contributed six points for the Beavers.
Wheaton shot 60% (18-30) from the field in the first and totaled a 45.2% (28-62) effort from the floor in the game. The Thunder shot 40.9% (9-22) from three-point range with 68.4% (13-19) at the free throw line. Blackburn shot 31.5% (17-54) from the field, with 23.1% (3-13) from three-point range and 56.3% (9-16) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Beavers 48-30, with a 14-6 edge on the offensive glass.
