Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton men's basketball team lost a 62-61 decision in the closing seconds at Carthage College (8-9/3-3 CCIW) on Saturday night. Wheaton, ranked 20th in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, is now 13-4 on the year with a 3-3 record in CCIW play. Wheaton will host Elmhurst College on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM.
The two teams were tied 25-25 at halftime of tonight's contest. Carthage's largest lead of the second half was a six point advantage at 36-30 with 16:44 remaining in the game. Carthage held a 42-37 lead with 12:45 remaining when Wheaton went on a 9-4 run to tie the game at 46-46 with 9:40 left in the night. Neither team had a lead larger than three points for the final 9:30 of the game and there were three ties and seven lead changes in that time.

Michael Kvam (PICTURED LEFT) sank a three-pointer with 1:06 left in regulation to tie the game at 58-58. A missed field goal attempt by the Red Men was tipped in by Carthage's Marlon Senior to give the hosts a 60-58 lead with 37-seconds left in the second half. Wheaton's
Brayden Teuscher nailed a trifecta on the guests' next possession to give the Thunder a 61-60 lead with 21-seconds remaining. Senior responded on Carthage's next possession by draining a jumper with five seconds left in regulation to give the Red Men a 62-61 lead. Wheaton took the ball down the court and took a six-foot jumper as time expired that would have give the guests the win, but it did not go through the net as Carthage emerged with the win.
Teuscher led the Thunder with 19 points on the night, adding four rebounds.
Tyler Peters (PICTURED RIGHT) scored 16 points, with three assists. Kvam and Nathan Haynes each scored 10 points, as Haynes added 13 rebounds.
Wheaton shot 41.7% (20-48) from the field, with 33.3% (5-15) from three-point range and 80% (16-20) at the free throw line. Carthage posted a 45.3% (24-53) field goal percentage, with 40% (4-10) from three-point range and 71.4% (10-14) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded Carthage 34-28, with an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass for the Thunder.
