#5-Thunder women's soccer team dominates Loras College, 5-1

The Wheaton College women's soccer team earned a 5-1 win at Loras College (7-4-0) on Tuesday night. Wheaton took control of the match in the first half. The Thunder scored four of its five goals in a span of approximately 29 minutes in the opening half.

Sophomore Sarah Guidera collected a rebounded shot attempt and put the ball into net for Wheaton's first goal of the night. Guidera's goal came in the 18th minute, on an assist from junior Leah DeMoss. Alexa Sharkey (PICTURED LEFT) netted her first goal of the year in the 24th minute on a shot from 25 yards out to increase the guests' lead to 2-0. DeMoss extended Wheaton's advantage to 3-0 with her 10th goal of the year on a shot from 15-yards out. Alexa Sharkey assisted on DeMoss' goal in the 28th minute. Freshman Ally Witt scored in the 31st minute on an assist by Annie Hamilton that increased the Thunder lead to 4-0. Wheaton held a 4-0 lead at the halftime intermission.

Witt scored her second goal of the match just 45-seconds into the second half, giving Wheaton a 5-0 lead. Loras' Hillary Wilson scored the Duhawks' lone goal of the night when she booted in a shot on a rebound in the 80th minute to account for the 5-1 final score.

Wheaton out-shot Loras 16-15 on the night, with the Duhawks holding a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Hilary Barreto made six saves, all in the second half, with one goal allowed. Hannah Wilson started in net for Loras with no saves and four goals allowed in 45 minutes of work. Mary Kate Halm played the 45 minutes of the second half, making three saves with one goal allowed.

The Thunder, ranked fifth in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, improves to 8-1-0 on the year. Wheaton will host Aurora University on Thursday in a 7 PM start at Joe Bean Stadium.
