Top-ranked Wheaton women's soccer team shuts out Ohio Wesleyan, 5-0

The top-ranked Wheaton women's soccer team shut out Ohio Wesleyan University 5-0 on Saturday night. Wheaton is the top-ranked team in Division III polls by the NSCAA and D3soccer.com

The Thunder improve to 7-1 on the year. Wheaton will return to action on Tuesday at Loras College. Ohio Wesleyan falls to 2-5-1 on the season with tonight's loss.

Sophomore Sarah Guidera gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead when she scored on a cross from Annie Hamilton in the 27th minute. Wheaton out-shot the Battling Bishops 10-2 in the opening half, as the Thunder led 1-0 at halftime.

Junior Leah DeMoss (PICTURED LEFT) blasted in a long shot in the 54th minute to extend Wheaton's lead to 2-0. Guidera put her second goal of the night into the net in the 64th minute to increase the lead to 3-0. Guidera registered her goal thanks to an assist from senior captain Keri Shannon. DeMoss netted her second goal of the match when she converted an Annie Wooldridge assist in the 75th minute. Sophomore Marlee Disher scored Wheaton's fifth goal of the night in the 80th minute of the match.

Wheaton out-shot Ohio Wesleyan 23-7 in the match, with the Thunder owning a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Thunder goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made two saves in the guests' net to record her third shutout of the season. Ohio Wesleyan netminder Hannah Zacharias made eight stops and allowed all five Thunder goals.
