Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder softball team split a doubleheader with University of Dubuque on Saturday at Ruth Leedy Field. The Thunder won the opener 10-1 and Dubuque (14-14) took the victory in the nightcap, 6-2. Wheaton is now 20-12 on the year and will travel to North Central College for a CCIW doubleheader in Naperville on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.

Lesley Guenard collected four hits on the day to become the Thunder softball program's
all-time hits leader. She now has 169 hits in her tremendous career, topping the previous school-record of 166 career hits by Abigail Cooley (2002-05).
Wheaton scored seven runs in the second inning of today's opening game to earn a 10-1 victory. Wheaton scored 10 runs, on 13 hits, with no errors and the Spartans plated one run, on four hits, with one error. Senior starting pitcher
Ainsley McCullough (9-5) earned the victory in five innings. McCullough (PICTURED LEFT) held Dubuque to one run, on four hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Guenard was 3-for-3 in the first game, with one run and one RBI.
Megan Chrans was 2-for-3, with a double as she drove in two runs and scored twice.
Suzanne Teuben was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Megan Crucetti went 2-for-3 in the game, with a double as she drove in two runs and scored once.
A solo home run for the Spartans in the top of the second inning gave Dubuque a 1-0 lead; however Wheaton responded with seven runs in the bottom of the second to open up a 7-1 lead.

Stacey Cladis and Chrans (PICTURED RIGHT) each hit two run doubles to highlight the big inning. A double by Lawrenz also drove in one run as the Thunder belted four doubles in the second inning.
Wheaton extended its lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the third inning when Guenard hit a RBI-single. Crucetti hit a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning to account for the final score of 10-1.
Dubuque earned the split with a 6-2 win in the second game. The Spartans scored six runs, on six hits, with one error and Wheaton plated two runs, on eight hits, with four errors. Thunder starting pitcher
Danielle Schmidt (11-6) took the loss in seven innings. She allowed six runs, including three earned runs, on six hits, with three strikeouts and one walk. Lawrenz was 2-for-3 for the Thunder at the plate.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo home run. Dubuque added two more runs in the top of the third inning to extend its lead to 3-0. Dubuque scored twice in the sixth inning and once more in the top of the seventh inning for a 6-0 lead on the Thunder. Guenard hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the 6-2 final score.
