Lake Forest, Ill. - The Wheaton College softball team picked up two wins over Lake Forest College by scores of 6-1 and 3-0 on Saturday.
The Thunder improved to 14-4 while the Foresters fell to 4-8.
In the first game, Wheaton got the ball rolling in the third inning thanks to four unearned runs. A bases-loaded single by
Stacey Cladis plated two runs and
Amanda Mattocks followed right up with a two-run double.
Jessika Russi doubled to start the sixth inning and
Jenna Lawrenz (PICTURED RIGHT) walked to set up a two-run double by
Lesley Guenard to make the score 6-0.
Thunder hurler
Ainsley McCullough shut down the Foresters all game, only allowing three hits and one walk in her complete-game effort. Lake Forest got its lone run on a solo homer in the seventh inning. McCullough improved her record to 6-2 and struck out eight batters.
Wheaton's bats banged out nine hits in the game, led by Russi's 3-for-3 day at the dish. Mattocks went 2-for-3.
In game two, the Thunder benefitted from unearned runs again. Wheaton loaded the bases thanks to a pair of errors and
Ellen Radandt got the runner home with an RBI hit by pitch.
Suzanne Teuben picked up a second run in the inning thanks to another error to make it 2-0 Thunder.
Pitcher
Danielle Schmidt (PICTURED LEFT) helped her own cause in the seventh inning with an RBI groundout. With the 3-0 lead, Schmidt (8-2) finished off the game with her third shutout of the year. The junior struck out six and walked one with three hits allowed.
The Thunder offense put up nine hits once again with two errors committed. Guenard and Lawrenz ended up with two hits each.
Wheaton will travel to Hope College for a 3 PM (ET) doubleheader on Tuesday.
