Beloit, Wis. – The Wheaton College softball team extended on its historic start by sweeping a doubleheader at Beloit College on Thursday afternoon. Wheaton took the Buccaneers 4-1 in the first game and the Thunder won the nightcap 8-0.
Today's victories extends Wheaton's school-record win streak to 10 games, improving the best start to a season in the program's history. The Thunder will play a doubleheader at Concordia-Chicago on Saturday at 1 PM in River Forest, Illinois.
Wheaton topped Beloit, 4-1 in today's opener. The Thunder scored four runs, on five hits, with one error and Beloit plated one run, on five hits. Thunder senior pitcher
Ainsley McCullough (5-0) tossed all seven innings, allowing one run, on five hits, with 10 strikeouts.
Megan Chrans drove in a pair runs for the Thunder and
Amanda Mattocks added a RBI.
The game started with three scoreless innings, until the Buccaneers scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the top of the sixth, Wheaton senior
Jenna Lawrenz hit a leadoff single and Wheaton loaded the bases to put Lawrenz at third base with Mattocks at bat. Mattocks was hit by a pitch that allowed Lawrenz to cross home plate and tied the score at 1-1.
Wheaton scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take it first lead at 4-1. A two-run single through the middle of the infield by Chrans aided the Thunder effort in the inning. McCullough held Beloit scoreless in the bottom of the seventh; including two strikeouts in the hosts' final two batters to give Wheaton the victory.
The Thunder shut out the Buccaneers 8-0 in the second game as Wheaton scored eight runs, on 12 hits, with no errors and Beloit plated no runs, on just one hit, with two errors. Junior pitcher

Lesley Guenard (PICTURED LEFT) was 3-for-3, with a double and a run scored for Wheaton. Chrans was 3-for-4, with a run scored and catcher Ellen Radant was 2-for-3, with two RBI.
Wheaton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Stacey Cladis drove in a run. Wheaton scored five runs in the top of the third to increase its lead to 6-0 as Radandt hit a RBI-double in the inning. The Thunder extended its lead to 8-0 in the top of the fourth inning as
Shannah Morris hit a two-run double for the guests.
