Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Wheaton women's tennis team played the first of 10 scheduled matches for the spring on Saturday, earning a 7-2 victory at Kalamazoo College. Wheaton is now 9-1 this season, while the Hornets fall to 0-5 this year.

Wheaton won five of the six singles matches against the Hornets and two doubles contests. Senior Elizabeth Worsowicz was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at number-one singles to improve her record to 15. Sophomore Sarah Ray rallied to earn a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory at number-two singles. Lauren Schlabach won 6-4, 6-0 at number-four singles and Marissa Shults won a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number-five singles and Julia Carey was a 6-4, 7-6 victor at number-six singles.

Worsowicz and Ray won 9-7 at number-one doubles. Kirsten Boyer teamed with Carey to win an 8-4 decision at number-three doubles.

Wheaton will return to action next weekend when it hosts a pair of matches at the Oak Brook Tennis Center in neaby Oak Brook, Illinois. Wheaton will entertain Calvin College on Friday at 6:30 PM and the Thunder will face Coe College next Saturday at 5 PM.
