#16-Thunder women's soccer team shuts out Carthage 4-0

The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team remains undefeated in conference play following a 4-0 victory at Carthage College (4-5-3/0-1-1) on Wednesday night. The Thunder scored two goals in each half of tonight's match.

Thunder sophomore Sarah Guidera gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th minute of the match as she blasted a shot into the lower corner of the net. Leah DeMoss extended Wheaton's advantage to 2-0 when she scored in the 15th minute off of a Keri Shannon assist. DeMoss' goal was her team-best 12th of the season. Wheaton's edge remained 2-0 at the halftime intermission.

Freshman Ally Witt scored in the 56th minute when she collected a cross from fellow freshman Mary Petitt to increase Wheaton's lead to 3-0. Guidera netted Wheaton's final goal when she scored from a Sydney Sharkey assist in the 74th minute.

Wheaton out-shot the Lady Reds 19-5 in the match, including a 10-0 advantage in the first half. The Thunder earned four corner kicks in the match, Carthage had none. Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made one save and allowed no goals as she posted her fourth shutout of the season. Carthage netminder Abby Alm made four saves and allowed all four Thunder goals.

Wheaton, ranked 16th in this week's NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, is now 10-2-0 on the year with a 2-0-0 record in CCIW play. The Thunder will host number-two ranked Trinity University (Texas) on Friday at 4:30 PM as part of Wheaton's Homecoming activities.
