Men's soccer earns a conference win in a 3-2 victory at #23-Carthage

The Thunder men's soccer team picked up its first conference win of the 2012 season with a 3-2 victory at Carthage College on Wednesday night. Carthage entered tonight's match ranked 23rd in this week's NSCAA Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll.

Wheaton improves to 7-3-2 on the year, with a 1-0-1 record in CCIW play. The Thunder will host Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday night at 7 PM as part of Wheaton's Homecoming activities at Joe Bean Stadium.

Thunder sophomore Adam Blackman gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead in tonight's victory when he scored his team-best sixth goal of the year. Blackman netted the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute off of a Noah Anthony assist. Wheaton retained its 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission.

Carthage's Erhan Caglayan tied the match at 1-1 in the 58th minute when he score from a Billy Hamilton assist. Wheaton regained the lead in the 70th minute when freshman Marshall Hollingsworth scored to give the guests a 2-1 lead. Wheaton's lead was short-lived however, as Carthage's Michael Dombrowski tied the match at 2-2 with a goal in the 73rd minute. Jonathan Clark (PICTURED LEFT) scored his first collegiate goal to give Wheaton its third lead of the night when he registered the match-winner in the 82nd minute off of an Anthony assist.

Wheaton out-shot the Red Men 25-11 in the match, including a 12-3 edge in the first half. Wheaton took nine corner kicks in the match, Carthage was awarded four. Wheaton goalkeeper Ryan Seager made four saves and allowed two goals on the night. Carthage keeper Milan Tijanic stopped 11 shots and allowed three goals in his 90 minutes of work.
