#16-Men's Soccer posts 3-0 shutout of Augustana

GAME STATS PICTURED ABOVE: Stephen Golz and Elliot Borge both scored for the Thunder in their 3-0 victory over Augustana on Wednesday night.

Wheaton, Ill.-
Wheaton's offense continued to roll right along on a beautiful night under the lights at Joe Bean Stadium.  Wheaton netted three goals for the fifth consecutive game and cruised to a 3-0 shutout of Augustana on Wednesday night.  The Thunder improve to 13-3-2 on the year and 5-0-1 in the CCIW.

Augustana (6-8-3/2-3-1) bottled the Thunder up early in the match but Wheaton broke through in the 32nd minute when Noah Anthony blasted a free kick from just outside the top of the box which slotted just underneath the crossbar to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead.  Earlier this week Anthony was honored as the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week.

Wheaton would get a second goal in the waning seconds of the first half.  The Thunder turned a defensive corner kick into a breakaway counter attack with Kevin Skinker finding Stephen Golz in space.  With Augustana keeper Tyler Cowherd off his line, Golz pushed the ball past Cowherd's diving attempt and inside the post with 43 seconds left in the first half to give Wheaton a 2-0 lead that they would carry to halftime.

Having an impressive night in the middle of the pitch, freshman Elliot Borge joined the scoring party at the 58:23 mark when he volleyed an Adam Blackman cross into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Wheaton keeper Ryan Seager made one save and recorded a clean sheet in his 86:22 of work.  Philip Oster manned the final 3:38 in net for the Thunder.  Augustana keeper Tyler Cowherd made one save and allowed three goals in 90 minutes.

Augustana was outshot on 12-3 on the night with the Thunder owning a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Wheaton will be in action again on Friday night when they host the Millikin Big Blue at 7 PM at Joe Bean Stadium.  At halftime of Friday night's game the Thunder will honor seniors Ryan Seager, Dan Pavlak, Connor Rice, Jason Bhatta and Jason Lollar as part of their Senior Night celebration.
