Wheaton, Ill. - As hosts for a four-team duals meet, Wheaton College wrestling went 1-2 on Saturday with a win over Concordia (Wis.) University and losses to Augustana College and Manchester College. The Thunder are now 5-7 in dual meets this season.

The first dual of the day went to Wheaton as the hosts won the final six matches in a row. After giving up points in all four matches to start, the Thunder were dominant the rest of the way with three major decisions and two pins.

CCIW foe Augustana College followed by defeating Wheaton 26-15. Tom Foy picked up a thrilling 7-6 win at 125 pounds to start out, but the Vikings recovered and won the next four matches to give themselves cushion. Peter Huang added a nail-biting 4-3 decision at 165 pounds.

The Thunder wrapped up the day with a 23-13 loss to Manchester College. The Spartans used two pins and a technical fall to put themselves up over the course of the dual.

Mitch Steed (184 pounds) and Darren Faber (197 pounds) were the standouts once again for the Thunder. The two wrestlers combined for a 6-0 record on the day that featured four pins and a major decision. Steed's overall record improves to 19-8 while Faber leads the team with a 23-3 mark.

Peter Huang (165 pounds) and Tim Savenok (157 pounds) also had some impressive matches in their returns to dual meet competition. Both grapplers went 2-1 on the day.

Matt McCrary (174 pounds), Kyle Patton (Heavyweight) and Foy all finished 1-2, while Brett Alfrey (149 pounds) finished 0-3.

"Steed and Faber are a core part of our roster," Wheaton head coach Jim Gruenwald said. "We look to them for wins every time they step on the mat, and they came through today. Faber looked especially good today. He's seen those opponents earlier this season and he just steamrolled them. Peter Huang is adjusting to 165 pounds and we feel good about him there. Tim Savenok is getting back from an injury and he's still working on getting in shape. But I liked what I saw from him."

The Thunder continues its homestand at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
