Chicago, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team kept its unbeaten record intact by scoring a pair of second-half goals to get the 2-1 victory over University of Chicago on Tuesday.
The Thunder, ranked No. 3 in the country in the latest NSCAA poll, ran its season record to 9-0. The No. 20-ranked Maroons fell to 5-3.
Playing through wet and rainy conditions, Chicago led 1-0 at the half thanks to a Kat Konstantinoff goal at the 33:50 mark of the match. It was the first goal allowed by the Thunder defense after five-straight shutouts.
However, Wheaton regained the offensive control early in the second half. In the first five minutes following halftime, senior forward
Jaime Orewiler (PICTURED ABOVE) got into the box and slipped the ball past Chicago goalie Emma Gormley for the equalizer.
Freshman
Annie Hamilton (PICTURED RIGHT) scored the game-winner on a volley that hit the post and went in at 59:47. From there, the final 30 minutes stayed scoreless to preserve the win for the Thunder.
Wheaton goalkeeper
Kelsey Graham made two saves to gain the win, while Gormley took the loss while making six saves. The Thunder owned a 14-6 shot advantage in the game. Corner kicks also went to the visitors, 8-2.
The Thunder are back in action this weekend at Wartburg College with a 3 PM game on Saturday.
