Dubuque, Iowa
- The Wheaton College softball teams won the first game 3-1 but lost the second 3-0 in a doubleheader at University of Dubuque on Friday.

The Thunder are now 12-9-1 on the season while the Spartans ran their record to 12-11.

Wheaton got on the board first in game one, as Lesley Guenard stroked an RBI and later scored on an error in the third inning. The hosts cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth with a run-scoring single that plated an unearned run.

From then on, Thunder hurler Ainsley McCullough was in control and only allowed one hit the rest of the game. Wheaton added an insurance run in the seventh via Guenard's RBI single.

McCullough (5-3) only allowed five hits and did not walk a batter in her complete-game effort. She also struck out two. Guenard led the offense by going 2-for-4 with both RBI. Katie Iser and Kelli Hennessey both went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Amanda Mattocks
The Thunder's best scoring chance in game two came right in the opening frame. Guenard reached on a walk and advanced on a single by Amanda Mattocks. Jenna Lawrenz singled immediately after, but Guenard was thrown out at the plate from left field.

Wheaton could only scratch out two hits the rest of the way. Dubuque scored two unearned runs in the fourth and added an RBI double in the fifth to account for the scoring.

Danielle Schmidt (5-4) was the losing pitcher despite only allowing four hits, one earned run and one walk to go with seven strikeouts. Mattocks was Wheaton's leading hitter, going 2-for-3 from the plate.

The Thunder resumes its conference schedule at Augustana College with a 12 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
