Lisle, Ill.
- The Wheaton College softball team saw its nine-game undefeated streak snapped by Benedictine University, losing 2-0 and 4-2 in a doubleheader on Wednesday.

The Thunder fall to 9-6-1 while the Eagles improve to 9-3.

Game One didn't feature much offense as the two teams combined for only seven hits. But Benedictine capitalized in the fifth inning with an RBI single to right field to plate the game's first run. The hosts added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly.

Wheaton's best chance to score was in the sixth inning as a Katie Iser double and Kelli Hennessey's single put runners on second and third. But Benedictine's Brittany Adcox notched a strikeout to end the threat. Adcox allowed five hits in seven innings with five strikeouts to get the win.

Ainsley McCullough (3-2) was the losing pitcher, throwing six innings and allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Iser went 2-for-3 at the plate while Hennessey, Lesley Guenard and Jenna Lawrenz all added one hit each.

The Thunder struck first in Game Two, plating two runs in the opening frame thanks to back-to-back RBI singles from Amanda Mattocks and Lawrenz. The Eagles tied it back up in the second inning on an RBI groundout and a run-scoring wild pitch.

Katie Iser
Benedictine scored the go-ahead runs in the fourth inning. Jess Fijolek's two-run triple to center field provided the damage to make it 4-2. However, the visitors made things interesting in the seventh. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two outs, but a groundout to first base ended the game.

Danielle Schmidt (4-2) took the loss in the circle in six innings of work. Her pitching line ended up with six hits, four runs, three walks and two strikeouts. The Thunder banged out seven hits, including two by Hennessey.

Sam Corban was Benedictine's winning pitcher with seven hits, two runs and four strikeouts in 6-1/3 innings of work.

The Thunder return home for a doubleheader against Beloit College at 3:15 PM on Monday.
