Thunder women earn their fifth straight win in a 91-58 victory against Augustana

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Thunder women's basketball team picked up its fifth consecutive victory on Tuesday night with an impressive 91-58 victory at home against Augustana (5-17/1-10 CCIW). The Thunder established a new school record for three-pointers in a single game with 14 on the night. The previous school record was 13, which had been set on three occasions, most recently in 1999.

Wheaton is now 16-5 overall and 9-2 in conference play. Wheaton's next game is a key CCIW contest as the Thunder will host conference-leading Illinois Wesleyan (17-4/9-1), ranked ninth in Division III, at 5 PM inside King Arena on Saturday.

Wheaton jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first eight minutes of tonight's contest as the Thunder never trailed in the game. The hosts led the Vikings 47-21 at halftime and led by as many as 37 points with a 66-29 advantage with 13:00 left in regulation.

Junior Lindsey Brenneman led a quartet of Wheaton players that scored in double digits. Brenneman shot 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-5 from three-point range as she scored a game-high 18 points. Reigning CCIW “Player of the Week” Laura Karsten scored 16 points, with nine rebounds and eight assists. Sophomore Brooke Olson scored 12 points, with four assists and fellow sophomore Breanna Bohlen added 12 points with three assists. Kelly Brooks scored nine points with five rebounds and freshman Maris Hovee collected a game-high 10 rebounds.

Gianna Pecora scored 16 points for Augustana and Kristen Fox scored 14 points with eight rebounds. Kelsey Mikula scored nine points, with three three-pointer off of the Vikings' bench.

Wheaton shot 47.1% (32-68) from the field, including 48.3% (14-29) from three-point range and 76.5% (13-17) at the free throw line. The Vikings tallied a 40.7% (22-54) field goal percentage, with 32% (8-25) from three-point range and 60% (6-10) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded the guests 42-32, with a 13-5 edge on the offensive glass.
