Elmhurst, Ill. - Despite owning an early lead, the Wheaton College men's soccer team lost a CCIW road contest at Elmhurst College 4-2 on Saturday.
The Thunder fall to 8-7-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCIW. The Bluejays 7-5-4 overall, 2-1-2 in conference.
Wheaton burst out of the gate and grabbed a quick 1-0 lead as
Jordan Golz scored in the first minute of the match. Jordan netted his third goal of the season off an assist from brother
Drew Golz.
However, the hosts scored the next three goals in the game. Matt Sterner tied the game up 1-1 at 13:31, then Austin Haas blasted in a shot just one minute before halftime to make it 2-1 Elmhurst.
Sterner made it 3-1 with another score at 54:08. Just under three minutes later,
Drew Golz tallied his 10th goal to make it 3-2. But the Bluejays added an insurance goal via Brian McMahon at 73:30.
For the game, Wheaton led in shots 18-15 while Elmhurst led corner kicks 5-4.
Ryan Seager collected four saves in goal to take the loss. John Reglin made seven saves to get the win.
Wheaton will play its final regular season home game at 7 PM on Wednesday as the Thunder host Illinois Wesleyan University.
