GAME STATS PICTURED ABOVE: Sophomore Jordan Golz had a career-best night with one goal and four assists

Rock Island, Ill. - Three goals in the first 11 minutes staked the Wheaton College men's soccer team to a lead it wouldn't relinquish en route to a 5-2 victory over Augustana College on Wednesday.

The Thunder improve to 8-6-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Vikings fall to 11-5 and 1-3 in the CCIW.

In a crucial conference tilt, Wheaton's forwards scored early and often, netting four goals on their first six shots. It all started with sophomore Jordan Golz only 6:29 into the game, with an assist from brother Drew Golz (PICTURED RIGHT). Jordan returned the favor by setting up Drew for a goal at 10:29. Less than 40 seconds later, freshman Adam Blackman scored off assist from Jordan Golz.

Augustana sandwiched in a rebound goal at 8:30 from Nick Wolfe. But it was Drew Golz who struck again at 19:43, netting his eighth goal of the season with another assist from Jordan Golz to make the score 4-1 Wheaton.

The Vikings dented the scoreboard again courtesy of Kevin Wyrostek in the 36th minute to send the game into halftime at 4-2.

In the second half, junior Jason Lollar put the finishing touches on the scoring on Jordan Golz's fourth assist of the night in the 56th minute.

Augustana came away with the shot advantage (17-16) and the corner kick edge (7-5). Thunder goalkeeper Ryan Seager corralled two saves to get the victory. Vikings goalie Tyler Cowherd saved six shots to take the loss.

The Thunder hit the road again this weekend at Elmhurst College for a 7:30 PM game on Saturday.
