Wheaton wrestlers host quad meet

Justin Marble went 3-0 on Saturday, including a pair of overtime victories

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College wrestling team went 0-3 as hosts of a quad meet with Augustana College, Olivet College and Concordia (Wis.) University on Saturday.

Wheaton started out the day with a dual meet against Concordia, which the Falcons won 31-20. Despite forfeiting three weight classes, the Thunder battled hard and picked up four weight class wins. Jon Sesso picked up a pin in 2:01 at 157 pounds, Cameron Fox earned a 12-0 major decision at 174 pounds, Justin Marble scored a 17-6 major decision at 184 pounds and Rocky Gingg also pinned his opponent in 1:45.

In the next match against Augustana College, the Vikings beat the Thunder 50-3. The lone win came via Marble, who scored a takedown in the waning seconds of the first overtime to beat Alex Vavra 4-2.

The third match saw Olivet College defeat Wheaton 40-3. Marble once again had to go into overtime, this time with James Neal. The defensive-minded grapplers went to a third overtime, where Marble completed a single-leg shot and held on for the victory 4-2.

Marble's victories improve his record to 26-8 overall on the season.

In the other duals, Olivet scored 14 points in the final three weight classes to rally past Augustana 20-16. Olivet also topped Concordia 37-4, and Augustana shutout Concordia 47-0.

The Thunder return to action on Friday and Saturday as they host the annual Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational.
