Holland, Mich. - In its first road game of the young season, the Wheaton College women's soccer team defeated Hope College 3-1 on Friday.
The No. 14-ranked Thunder improved to 4-0 overall while the Flying Dutch fell to 0-3.
Wheaton came into the game averaged 26 shots per game, and Friday was no exception. The Thunder attackers got off 14 shots in the first half and scored early once again.
Jaime Orewiler got the visitors on the board at 6:54 into the match with a 20-yard strike.
Brittany Bergh was credited with the assist.
The second half was more of the same for the Thunder offense. At 51:48,
Ali Kopelman got a nice pass from
Laura Karsten and finished for the score to make it 2-0.
Hope cut the advantage 16 minutes later. Raisa Yewah won a scramble for the ball in the box and booted the ball into the net to make it 2-1. But a penalty kick goal from Orewiler at 85:26 provided the final cushion.
In the game, Wheaton outshot Hope 30-9, including 12-5 shots on goal. The Thunder also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Maddie Allen earned her first collegiate win as the freshman made four saves with one goal allowed.
Wheaton continues its Michigan trip weekend vs. Calvin College at 5:00 PM (EST) on Saturday.
