Rock Island, Ill. – The Thunder women's basketball team picked up its second consecutive league win on Tuesday night with a 65-35 win at Augustana. Wheaton is now 12-9 overall and 6-5 in CCIW play. The Thunder will return to action on Thursday night with a 7 PM (EST) tipoff at St. Mary's College (Ind.).
Augustana took a 16-7 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game. Wheaton countered with a 23-3 scoring run over the final 9:34 of the first half; including 21-unanswered points to give the Thunder a 30-19 lead at halftime. Wheaton continued to build on its lead in the second half, the 30-point advantage in the 65-35 final score was Wheaton's largest lead of the game.
Three Wheaton players led the Thunder in scoring with 10 points apiece.
Elisabeth Potts,
Lindsey Brenneman and
Jennifer Lee each registered 10 points and five rebounds for the guests.
Brooke Olson scored eight points, while
Annie Bowen and
Darcy Cornell each registered seven points. Olson and Lee each distributed a team-high three assists.
Lani Kasten scored 10 points, with 11 rebounds to lead the Vikings.
Wheaton posted a 33.3% (20-60) field goal percentage, with 33.3% (7-21) from three-point range and 78.3% (18-23) at the free throw line. The Vikings shot 22% (11-50) from the floor, with 6.7% (1-15) from three-point range and 54.5% (12-22) at the charity stripe. Augustana out-rebounded the Thunder 50-37, with a 17-10 edge on the offensive glass.
