#21-Ranked Thunder men's basketball team tops University of Chicago, 95-67

– The Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team, ranked 21st in this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, recorded its fourth consecutive victory in a 95-67 win at University of Chicago (1-4) on Wednesday night. Wheaton is now 4-1 on the season and will participate in the CCIW/MIAA Classic this weekend at Carthage College. The Thunder will face Calvin College on Friday at 6 PM in Kenosha and take on Hope College at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon.

Tonight's 95 points marked a season-high for the Thunder. The two teams battled back-and-forth early in the first half, with 16 lead changes and eight ties. Chicago led 36-33, with 5:15 left in the first half, when a Tim McCrary (PICTURED RIGHT) layup sparked a 12-3 run to close out the first half as Wheaton led 48-39 at halftime.

The Thunder opened the second half with a 13-4 scoring run to take a 61-43 lead with 14:50 left in the game. Wheaton continued to build up its lead in the second half, with its largest lead being a 30-point bulge at 95-65 with one minute left in the game. The Thunder out-scored the Maroons 47-28 in the second half.

McCrary led the Thunder with 24 points on 12-of-14 shooting from the field. The All-American also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, adding four assists and three steals. Sophomore Jeremy Pflederer was 7-for-10 from the field, scoring 19 points, with five rebounds and four assists. Senior captain Andrew Jahns tallied 15 points and freshman Tyler Peters added nine points. Freshman Nathan Haynes came off the bench to scored eight points and Spencer Schultze added seven points.

Matt Johnson led Chicago with 16 points and Tommy Sotos added 13 points. Sam Gage scored 12 points off the Maroons' bench and Derrick Davis added eight points.

The Thunder shot a season-high 66.1% (37-56) from the field, with 31.3% (5-16) from three-point range and 88.9% (16-18) at the free throw line. The Thunder held a commanding 33-18 edge in rebounding, with a 6-4 edge on the offensive glass. Chicago shot a 43.4% (23-52) field goal percentage, 44.4% (8-18) from behind the three-point arc and 76.5% (13-17) at the free throw line.
