Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton College women's basketball team got off to a fast start and won its third-straight game with an 84-56 victory over Aurora University on Tuesday.
The Thunder improved to 3-1 while the Spartans fell to 1-2.
Wheaton wasted no time gaining a double-digit lead as the hosts jumped out to a 15-3 lead. Aurora came within five points on two occasions in the first half, including at 30-25 with three minutes left. But a 12-2 run by Wheaton closed the half and the lead never dipped below 15 points the rest of the game.
Elisabeth Potts led the Thunder with 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting with seven rebounds. Freshman
Maris Hovee set career highs with 14 points and 12 rebounds while
Breanna Bohlen added 14 points.
Wheaton shot 47 percent from the field (35-74), but only 23 percent from three-point range (5-22) and 47 percent from the free throw line (9-19).
The Spartans shot 40 percent from the field (22-55) and committed 27 turnovers compared to 12 turnovers by the Thunder. Michelle Perry totaled 16 points to lead Aurora's scorers.
Wheaton will play its first road game of the season at University of Chicago at 6:00 PM on December 1.
