BOXSCORE

Platteville, Wis.
– The Wheaton men's soccer team extended its win streak to six matches on Friday night with a 1-0 non-conference win at Wisconsin-Platteville. Wheaton is now 8-6-3 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 8-8-1.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first half that saw each club take seven shots. Thunder freshman Chad Musgraves broke the scoreless draw in the 77th minute when he dribbled to the net from 22 yards out and put the ball in the back of the net to give the guests the lead.

Within three minutes of Musgraves' goal the Pioneers took two shots, including a shot on goal that was saved by Wheaton goalkeeper Ryan Seager (PICTURED RIGHT). Wheaton countered in the final five minutes of the match with shots on goal by Paul Pesek in the 85th minute and a shot by Drew Golz in the 87th minute that were both stopped by Pioneer netminder Jared Kuehl. With 34-seconds remaining in the match, UW-Platteville attempted a shot that was blocked by the Thunder defense and Wheaton was able to gather the ball following the shot and keep it away from the hosts for the closing seconds to earn the hard-fought victory.

UW-Platteville out-shot the Thunder 17-13, and Wheaton had a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. The Pioneers were awarded three corner kicks in the match, Wheaton had none. Seager made three save to record his fourth shutout of the year. Kuehl made three saves and allowed just the one goal in the Pioneers' net.

The Thunder will return to conference play on Wednesday night with a key conference match at Illinois Wesleyan at 7 PM. Wheaton will enter Wednesday's match in Bloomington atop the CCIW standings with a 5-0 conference record, while Illinois Wesleyan is currently second in the league with a record of 3-0-1. With a victory Wheaton would secure the CCIW Championship and earn the top-seed in the CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament (Nov. 3 and Nov. 6).
