Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team picked up its third consecutive win on Wednesday night in a 2-1 victory at Carthage College. Wheaton is now 5-6-3 overall with a 3-0-0 record in CCIW play. The Thunder will remain in conference action at 7:30 PM on Saturday night at North Central College. Carthage is now 7-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the CCIW.
Thunder freshman Jordan Golz gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season in the 13th minute. Wheaton maintained its 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half. A little more than two minutes into the second half, Carthage's Aleks Urosevic scored in the 47th minute to tie the match at 1-1. The contest remained tied for the about 19 minutes, until Thunder senior Stephen Mesko deposited the ball into the back of the net off of a Chad Musgraves assist. Wheaton held onto the 2-1 advantage for the rest of the contest.
Wheaton out-shot the Red Men with a 13-12 advantage, with an 8-7 edge in shots on goal. Carthage was awarded 10 corner kicks in the match and Wheaton had seven. Wheaton goalkeeper Ryan Seager made six saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of work. Carthage netminder Aaron Dirck made six saves and allowed two goals in the match.
