BAPTISTA INVITATIONAL WEBPAGE

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team recorded its second consecutive shutout of the young season on Friday with a 4-0 victory against Carleton College in the first day of action in the Bob Baptista Invitational. Wheaton (2-0) is ranked second in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) Preseason Coaches Poll, while Carleton (0-2) is ranked 21st in the same poll. Wheaton will face 11th-ranked University of Puget Sound (1-0) on Saturday at 4:30 PM in the final day of action in the tournament. Puget Sound was a 4-0 victor against DePauw University (0-2) in the first match of the day.

The Wheaton offense put the pressure on Carleton early in the match and that pressure paid off 13:20 into the contest when sophomore Ali Kopelman netted a goal off of a Taryne Lee assist. Freshman Keri Shannon netted her first collegiate goal 29:08 into the contest when she headed the ball into the net off of a Katelyn Kishkunas assist. Wheaton held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Senior captain Taryne Lee booted the ball into the net at the 52:56 mark of the match off of an Ali Kopelman assist. Sophomore Jaime Orewiler scored just over a minute later when she blasted in a goal off a nifty pass from Lee at the 53:28 mark for a 4-0 Thunder lead that would become the final score.

With her effort today, Lee now has 79 goals in her career, just three shy of tying Rebecca Mouw's (1999-2002) Wheaton record of 82 career goals. Mouw has also tallied 196 career points, just four shy of Mouw's school record of 200 career points.

Wheaton out-shot Carleton 16-9 and the Thunder had a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Hillary Barreto made four saves in 77 minutes of action in the net. Fellow freshman Anna Wilcoxson saw 13 minutes of time in the net. Carleton netminder Kate Trenerry made three saves and allowed four goals on the afternoon.
