Wheaton men's soccer opens conference play with 6-2 win at North Central

- The Wheaton College men's soccer team opened up its conference season with a 6-2 victory over North Central College on Wednesday.

The Thunder improved to 8-2 and 1-0 in the CCIW. The Cardinals fell to 4-6 overall and 0-1 in conference. 

The host Cardinals jumped out right away with a header goal at 2:22 into the match. But Wheaton soon answered with a North Central own goal at 12:17 and took the lead at 13:56 with a goal by Drew Golz with an assist from Matt Swartz.

Right after halftime, the Thunder widened their lead on a Kristian Rosenberger goal at 46:48, assisted by Golz. Rosenberger netted his second score unassisted 13 minutes later.

At 61:23, NCC made it 4-2 before Tyler Risma struck with two goals in the 75th and 81st minute to account for the final score.

Wheaton held a 30-18 shot advantage and an 8-4 corner kick edge. Ryan Seager got the win in goal as he made four saves while allowing two goals.

Wheaton continues its season at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 7:00 PM on Friday.
