Chicago, Ill. -
The Thunder softball team swept a CCIW doubleheader at North Park University on Wednesday afternoon.  Wheaton won the opener 7-6 in eight innings and came back to pick up the victory in the second game 5-3.

Wheaton is now 14-18 overall, with a 2-8 record in CCIW play. The Thunder will host Elmhurst on Thursday afternoon at 3 PM on Ruth Leedy Field in the second day of action for the Thunder in a string of four consecutive days with games. Thursday's twinbill is a makep-up game of a contest that was originally scheduled to be played on April 21. The Thunder will host Millikin at 3 PM on Friday and close out the week's busy schedule with two games in the First Annual Wheaton Invitational Softball Tournament on Saturday.

In game one at North Park, Wheaton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded walk by Megan Chrans and an RBI groundout by Mandy Brockman. But North Park answered with four runs in the third inning to recapture the lead 5-3.

A two-run single by Brockman in the fifth cut the deficit to 6-5 to give Wheaton's offense new life. Then, in the top of the seventh, Adrienne Munoz struck the momentum-swinging blow.

The Wheaton second baseman fell behind in the count 0-2 before hitting a mammoth foul ball down the left field line that traveled about 260 feet. It was harbinger of things to come, as Munoz cranked a solo homer to left center field two pitches later.

The Thunder clinched the 7-6 win the very next inning with an RBI single by pinch hitter Amanda Mattocks. Pitcher Ainsley McCullough then sent North Park down in order to earn the win in four innings of scoreless relief.

Munoz led the offense by going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Katie Iser went 2-for-4, Brockman (PICTURED RIGHT) tallied three RBI and Chrans had two RBI.

North Park turned it around in game two by scoring three in the first frame off McCullough. However, it was the only runs the Vikings would score the rest of the way as they were held to three hits over the final six innings.

Wheaton once again rallied late, plating two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. An RBI single by Lesley Guenard and an error accounted for the first pair of runs, and a clutch pinch-hit single by Brockman knocked in the two winnings runs.

McCullough got the complete-game victory, allowing six hits and three runs with three walks and three strikeouts.

Guenard paced the Wheaton offense by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Brockman and Munoz totaled two RBI each.
