Rock Island, Ill. - The Wheaton College softball team lost a pair of conference games at Augustana College 4-2 and 10-0 on Saturday.
The Thunder fell to 10-18 on the year and 0-8 in conference. The Vikings improved to 22-8 overall and 6-2 in the CCIW.
In game one, Augustana won 4-2. Wheaton made two errors in the fourth inning that led to two unearned runs that gave the hosts the lead.
The Thunder cut the deficit to 3-2 with an RBI single by
Kay Oliver in the sixth inning. But the Vikings added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and held on to win the game.
Oliver and
Kelli Hennessey knocked two hits each for Wheaton's offense. Pitcher
Ainsley McCullough took the loss, allowing 11 hits and two earned runs with one walk in six innings.
In game two, the Vikings scored five runs in the second inning and five runs in the seventh inning to get the 10-0 victory. The Thunder were held to four hits in the game.
Wheaton continues its season with a home doubleheader against Elmhurst College starting at 3:00 PM on Tuesday.
