Dubuque, Iowa - The Wheaton College softball team's bats came alive on Friday with wins of 8-0 and 4-2 at the University of Dubuque. The Thunder improved to 12-16 on the season to break a four-game losing streak. The Spartans fell to 11-21.
After scoring only one run in its previous four games, Wheaton's offense broke out in game one, with four runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the seventh. Catcher
Kay Oliver led the offense by going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Amanda Mattocks knocked three hits in with a RBI, while
Adrienne Munoz and
Mandy Brockman had two hits and an RBI each.
Brockman also put forth a strong pitching performance, allowing only four hits in her seven innings of work to get the victory by an 8-0 margin.
In game two,
Jenna Lawrenz's bat proved to be the difference as she went 2-for-3 with three RBI to keep Wheaton ahead and lead to a 4-2 win.
Lesley Guenard added two hits and Munoz tallied a RBI.
Christine Williams got the win in the circle with 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing six hits and one earned run, with a walk and seven strikeouts. Brockman got the save in scoreless relief.
Wheaton continues its schedule with a 10:00 AM doubleheader at Augustana College on Saturday.
