Wheaton softball drops a pair to conference-leading Illinois Wesleyan

- The Wheaton College softball team was shutout in a doubleheader 7-0 and 2-0 by Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday.

The Thunder fell to 10-16 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Titans improve to 18-3 and 4-0 in the CCIW.

Errors proved costly in game one as IWU scored five unearned runs to take a 5-0 lead in the second inning. In the game, Wheaton committed four errors.

Wheaton's offense got three hits, with one each from Megan Chrans, Christine Williams and Lesley Guenard. Sophomore Mandy Brockman took the loss in the pitcher's circle, in one inning of work, allowing four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In game two, IWU scored both of the game's runs in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles.

Wheaton was held to two hits in the game, by Chrans and Jenna Lawrenz. Starting pitcher Ainsley McCullough took the loss in seven innings. She allowed seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Wheaton returns to action on Friday with a 3:00 PM doubleheader at the University of Dubuque.
