Wheaton, Ill. - With a weather forecast more suited to an outdoor hockey game, the Wheaton College softball team withstood the elements and swept Lake Forest College 6-1 and 9-4 on Saturday afternoon.

The Thunder won their seventh-straight game to even their record at 9-9. The Foresters fell to 4-9.

Saturday's weather barely resembled spring. Temperatures dipped into the low 30s and winds howled across the field at 20-25 mph to lower the frigid temps ever further.

The gusts made fielding interesting for all the fielders as the two teams committed three errors each on the day.

Even though the cold made it harder than normal to grip the ball, Wheaton starting pitcher Mandy Brockman got the job one in Game One. The sophomore hurler threw a complete game and allowed only one run on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Wheaton's offense backed her up with a four-run rally in the fourth inning. After consecutive walks to start the inning, the Thunder took advantage of several poor fielders choices to score some runs. Kelli Hennessey knocked an RBI single in the inning while Adrienne Munoz and Amanda Mattocks both picked up RBIs.

In the game, Mattocks went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the offense and Hennessey went 2-for-4.

Adrienne Munoz
The Thunder bats wasted no time in game two and jumped on Lake Forest with seven runs in the first two innings. An RBI single by Mattocks, a two-run double by Megan Chrans and a two-run triple by Munoz (PICTURED RIGHT) highlighted the offensive fireworks.

Chrans (PICTURED LEFT) also belted a two-run shot in the fourth inning for her first collegiate homer. The freshman outfielder went 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the game.

Mid-game rain made pitching even tougher, but starter Ainsley McCullough worked herself out of several bases-loaded jams and picked up the complete-game victory. She allowed eight hits and one earned tun to go with four walks.

Munoz went 2-for-4 in the game with three runs scored and two RBIs.

The Thunder continue their season with a home doubleheader against North Central College at 3:00 PM on Thursday.
