Lisle, Ill. - The Thunder softball team split a doubleheader at Benedictine University on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles won the first game 11-3 and Wheaton was a 20-5 victor in the second game. Wheaton (3-9) will host Concordia (Ill.) on Saturday at 12 PM in the inaugural games at the newly renovated Leedy Field Softball Complex.
Benedictine won the opener 11-3 as the hosts scored 11 runs, on 14 hits and Wheaton plated three runs on six hits. The Eagles led 5-3 after four innings, however, the hosts pulled away for good with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to account for the 11-3 final score. Freshman
Megan Chrans was 2-for-2, with a run scored and a run driven in for the Thunder.
Wheaton won the second game 20-5 as the Thunder scored 20 runs, on 20 hits, with two errors and Benedictine scored five runs, on eight hits, with seven errors. Benedictine scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Wheaton cut the hosts' lead to 4-2 in the top of the second inning as
Jenna Lawrenz and
Kelli Hennessey each drove in runs.
Wheaton took the lead for good in the top of the third inning with six runs for an 8-4 lead.
Christine Williams belted a two-run double to right centerfield, while Hennessey and Lawrenz each hit a RBI-single. Lawrenz hit another RBI-single in the top of the fourth to extend Wheaton's lead to 9-4. The Thunder scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning as
Adrienne Munoz hit a RBI-double.
Benedictine cut Wheaton's lead to 11-5 with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wheaton scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to account for the 20-5 final score. Chrans drove in two runs in the inning and Munoz had a two-RBI double. Lawrenz,

Freshman pitcher
Ainsley McCullough picked up the win, allowing five runs, on eight hits, in seven innings of work. Hennessey was 3-for-4, with two RBI and two runs scored and a double. Lawrenz was 3-for-5, with four RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore outfielder
