Women's basketball earns a 73-52 victory against Augustana

Kelly Brooks led the Thunder with a team-high 14 points

– The Thunder women's basketball team earned a convincing 73-52 victory against Augustana on Tuesday night in King Arena. With the win, Wheaton improves to 13-8 overall and 8-2 in CCIW play, while Augustana is now 3-19 overall and 1-10 in the CCIW.

Wheaton jumped out to a 19-4 lead over the first 10 minutes of the game and never looked back. Wheaton led the Vikings 35-14 at halftime and Wheaton's largest lead of the night was a 26-point bulge at 71-45 with 1:55 remaining in the game.

Sophomore Kelly Brooks came off the Wheaton bench to lead the hosts with 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field, with six rebounds. Senior Lynnea Kvam scored 13 points, with three three-pointers and four steals. Kathleen Fidelia scored 12 points, with four assists. Whitney Edgecombe and Sarah Jones each scored eight points.

Sarah Rachwalski led Augustana with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field, with three assists.

Wheaton shot 42.6% (29-68) from the field, with 26.7% (4-15) from three-point range and 84.6% (11-13) at the free throw line. Augustana posted a 36% (18-50) field goal percentage, with 31.3% (5-16) from three-point range and 57.9% (11-19) at the charity stripe. Wheaton out-rebounded the Vikings 43-32, with an 18-10 edge on the offensive glass as the Thunder out-scored the guests 19-8 in second-chance points.

Wheaton will travel to top-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday for a 2 PM tipoff against the Titans.
