Women's basketball wins its fourth straight

– The Thunder women's basketball team picked up its fourth consecutive victory on Monday night with a 75-70 victory at Clarke College. Tonight's game closed out a stretch of five consecutive road games to open the season for the Thunder. Wheaton (4-1) will host #14-ranked University of Chicago on Wednesday night at 6 PM.

Wheaton led Clarke 9-8 with 13:50 left in the first half, when the Thunder put together a 12-4 scoring run to take a 21-12 lead with 10:44 remaining before halftime. The guests led Clarke 30-24 at halftime.

The Thunder came out and opened the second half with a 14-5 scoring burst to take a 44-29 lead with 16:40 left in the second half. Clarke battled back throughout the second half to get within three points, including a 59-56 Wheaton lead with 3:47 left in the game. The Thunder shot 9-for-10 at the free throw line in the final minute of the game to secure the victory.

Junior forward Annie Bowen led the Thunder with 16 points, as she shot 7-for-7 from the field. Bowen also grabbed five rebounds in the victory. Sophomore Lindsey Brenneman scored 12 points, with four rebounds. Freshman Breanna Bohlen scored 10 points, with three assists. Kelly Brooks and Lissie McAlvey each scored eight points for the guests.

Casey Breitbach led Clarke with a game-high 26 points and three steals. Israel Coleman scored 16 points and Joquetta Rolle added 11 points, with 13 rebounds.

Wheaton shot 52.8% (28-53) from the floor, with 42.9% (6-14) from three-point range and 65% (13-20) at the free throw line. Clarke posted a 41.5% (22-53) field goal percentage, with 37% (10-27) from behind the three-point arc and 69.6% (16-23) at the free throw line. Wheaton out-rebounded Clarke 33-29, however, the hosts held a 7-6 edge on the offensive glass.
