Men's soccer ties North Park, 0-0 in two overtimes

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Thunder men's soccer team played to its second tie in as many matches, with a 0-0 tie against North Park on Tuesday night at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton is now 12-3-2 overall and 3-1-2 in CCIW play. North Park is 9-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in league action. The Thunder will close out the regular season on Friday night at 6 PM, when Millikin University visits Joe Bean Stadium.

The first half of tonight's match saw Wheaton out-shoot North Park 4-3. North Park's best scoring opportunity came just 11:48 into the contest when the Vikings took a shot on an open Thunder goal, however the shot was keenly blocked by freshman defender Connor Rice. Wheaton took control of the pace of the match in the second half with consistent pressure on the Vikings as the hosts owned a 10-4 shot advantage, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.

Wheaton took two shots, none on goal in the first overtime, and North Park had no shots in the session. Wheaton had consistent pressure on the Vikings in the second overtime with a 5-1 edge in shots. Perhaps Wheaton's best scoring opportunity was its final one. There were 12-seconds remaining in the final overtime when sophomore Drew Golz blasted a shot that went just left of the goal.

Wheaton out-shot North Park 21-8 tonight, with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Ryan Seager made two saves in 110 minutes of action in the Thunder net. North Park netminder Joe Cindric made seven saves in the Vikings' net.
