Women's soccer tops North Central 7-0 behind hat tricks from Bergh and Lee

Wheaton, Ill.
– The Thunder women's soccer team picked up a 7-0 victory on Wednesday night at home against North Central College. Senior Taryne Lee and junior Brittany Bergh each scored three goals apiece to register hat tricks for the Thunder.

Wheaton is now 14-4 overall and 4-1 in CCIW play, North Central is 9-6 overall and 2-4 in conference action. The Thunder will remain in conference play for the team's next match, when Wheaton travels to Millikin for a match against the Big Blue on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM.

Bergh gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead when she blasted the ball into the back of the net off of a Katelyn Kishkunas assist in the ninth minute. Kishkunas continued her strong play and solid distribution throughout the night as she assisted on Wheaton's second goal, recorded by Lee in the 14th minute. Thirty seconds after Lee's goal Bergh scored again, this time off an Ali Kopelman assist, to give the hosts a 3-0 lead that would be the halftime score.

Lee's second goal of the night came in the 64th minute when she took a cross from Bergh and put it into the back of the net. Wheaton tallied to goals, less than 40 seconds apart, in the 67th minute. The first goal came off the foot of freshman Keri Shannon, with an assist from Kishkunas and the second goal in the span was Lee's third of the night as she took a Kopelman assist. Wheaton's final goal of the night was by Bergh as she dribbled the ball in and registered her third goal of the night in the 77th minute.

Wheaton out-shot the Cardinals 27-4, with an 11-1 edge in corner kicks. Wheaton goalkeeper Hillary Barreto made one save in 85 minutes of action. Anna Wilcoxson played the final five minutes in net. North Central netminder Elise Manzie made six saves and allowed seven goals.

With three goals tonight, Lee has now tallied 95 goals and 236 total points in her brilliant career. The effort tonight moved her into 14th place on the all-time NCAA Division III Women's Soccer total points list and 19th on the all-time goals scored list.
