Bloomington, Ill. - It had been six years since the Wheaton College men's soccer team had won a game in Bloomington. But the road drought ended on Wednesday night as the Thunder blanked Illinois Wesleyan University 2-0.

The Thunder improved to 12-3-0 overall and 3-1 in the CCIW. The Titans fell to 5-7-2 and 2-3-0 in conference.

Wheaton's offense got going early as Luke Partain scored at 9:16 into the match off a corner kick. No other scores came for the next hour until Drew Golz added insurance with a goal 77:08, which also came off a corner kick. Partain's score was his first career collegiate goal while Golz netted his sixth of the season.

The Thunder held a 10-6 shot advantage in the game to come away with the victory. Goalkeeper Ryan Seager made two saves to pick up the shutout and run his record to 6-1 on the year.

IWU goalie Win Fisher made four saves while allowing two goals.

Wheaton's next contest is a key conference matchup at CCIW leader Elmhurst College. The Bluejays will enter Friday night's 7 PM match at Berens Park in Elmhurst with a 5-0-1 record in league play. With a win, Elmhurst will win its first-ever CCIW Championship in men's soccer. However, a Wheaton victory would catapault the Thunder into first place in the conference standings. Friday's match will be broadcast on WETN radio at 88.1 FM in the Wheaton area and on the internet at www.wetn.org.
