Carthage tops the Thunder 11-1

Kenosha, Wis. (4/16) – The Thunder baseball team lost an 11-1 decision at Carthage College on Monday afternoon. Carthage scored 11 runs, on 14 hits, with two errors and Wheaton plated one run, on two hits, with five errors. Carthage improves to 16-8 overall and 9-2 in the CCIW, while Wheaton falls to 6-14-1 overall and 1-9 in the CCIW.
 
Monday's scheduled nine-inning game was called after seven innings as a result of the 10-run rule. Wheaton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when senior Matt Price hit a solo home run over the leftfield fence. Carthage scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Red Men added a run in the third inning and three more Carthage players scored in the bottom of the fourth to extend the hosts' lead to 7-1. Carthage scored two runs in the fifth inning, one run in the sixth and the decisive 11th run was scored in the seventh inning to end the game.
 
In addition to Price's home run, Wheaton's other hit was a single by junior Luke Munch. Munch (1-2) took the loss as the Thunder starting pitcher in four innings on the mound. Munch allowed seven runs, with six earned runs, on six hits, with six walks and three strikeouts. Sophomore Brandon Bradley pitched 2-1/3 innings of relief, allowing four runs, with three earned runs, on eight hits, with two strikeouts.  
 
The Thunder will return to action on Tuesday afternoon at Robert Morris College. Tuesday's game will be played at Howie Minas Field in Midlothian, Illinois at 3 PM. Wheaton will resume conference play on Thursday afternoon when it hosts North Park at 3:30 PM in a game that was re-scheduled from last week due to snow.
