Wheaton College Athletics

Emily Schwaller is a senior on the Thunder women's track team. Schwaller was a part of the 4x400 relay team that set the school record last year. Below is a brief interview with Emily.

Q: What is your major?
 
A: Mathematics
 
Q: What (if any) plans do you have after graduation?
 
A: Staying at Wheaton to complete the Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program for secondary education, in hopes of teaching high school math, along with coaching track or cheerleading.
 
Q: Why did you choose to attend Wheaton and run track?
 
A: I came to Wheaton because my sister came here and when I visited her I loved it. It was also academically the best Christian school that I got into. I chose to run track mainly because I had done it in high school and enjoyed the team atmosphere and fitness aspect. However, as my time on the Wheaton team progressed, I realized God blessed me with a special community as well as a passion for running too.
 
Q: What do you enjoy most about Wheaton?
 
A: The Christian community. I have been able to surround myself with people who keep my eyes pointed on Christ. God has blessed me with meaningful friendships here that I believe will last a lifetime.
 
Q: What is your favorite track memory so far in your time at Wheaton?
 
A: During indoor conference of my sophomore year, I watched the Wheaton women’s 4x400 meter relay and felt inspired by the passion that I sensed in their running. I can’t explain it well, but I actually began to cry because I thought their running was so inspiring. A year later, my 400 time began to drop and I was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of that relay team. We broke the school record that year, and I found myself amazed that I was now a significant member of that special relay event.
