Julie (Schmela) Davis was appointed as Athletics Director at Wheaton College (Illinois) in September, 2011. She previously served as Wheaton's Senior Women’s Administrator (SWA) and as the Internal Operations Coordinator for the Thunder Athletic Department since the 2003-04 school year.
In Davis’ tenure as Athletics Director, Wheaton has finished in the top-50 of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup four times since her appointment in 2011. Wheaton’s highest finish in the Directors’ Cup standings in that time was 23rd in 2012-13. In 2014-15 the Thunder Athletics Department established a new program-best with seven College Conference if Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championships in one year. Since Davis became Athletics Directors in 2011-12, Wheaton has won 25 CCIW Championships and appeared in 54 NCAA Division III Championship events.
During her tenure Davis has added enhancements across the department, including Wheaton’s first full-time head coach for softball, upgrades to locker rooms and a new fundraising policy for Wheaton Athletics.
In her previous role with the Wheaton Athletics Department, Davis oversaw Wheaton's compliance and eligibility matters, oversaw several coaches and staff members and serves a number of other roles. For her first three years at Wheaton, she also served as head coach of the Thunder women's golf team (2003-06).
Davis is a 1991 graduate of Wheaton College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She was a member of the women’s basketball program for three seasons and is among the top-10 on Wheaton’s all-time points per game list and also on the team's all-time assists list. She came to Wheaton from Public School District #54 in Schaumburg, Illinois, where she served as a coach and teacher.
