Brett Marhanka

Brett Marhanka served as the Sports Information Director (SID) at Wheaton from 1999-2012 and named Director of Athletics Communications in July of 2012. In July of 2022 he was named Assistant Athletics Director.

In his role, Brett works with Mike Schauer and the department's Admin Team on branding/identity; game management and event operations; overseeing the Wheaton Athletics Hall of Honor; working with admissions on technology related to recruiting among other departmental issues. In retaining his role as Athletics Communications Director he oversees the Wheaton Thunder Sports Network (WTSN); the Wheaton Athletics website; all statistical and photographic needs of the Athletics Department; social media for the department; awards nominations and promotions of Wheaton's student-athletes; media relations for all 21 Thunder sports programs and management for several full-time, student staff members, as well as some part-time coaches.

In June of 2024 Brett was voted to serve as Region 4 representative to DIIISIDA, a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Division III Athletics Communicators nationwide. His appointment to the DIIISIDA Board is for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 academic years. Additionally, as a member of DIIISIDA he served on a subcommittee to organize the inaugural DIII Emerging Elite program, hosted by NCAA Division III in Indianapolis, Indiana in December of 2024. In addition to participating in the inaugural program, Brett served as a panelist at the event. 

Prior to his tenure in the Thunder athletic department, Marhanka served as the SID at Anderson University (Ind.) for two years. He began his career with a two-year stint as the SID at Gallaudet University from 1995-97.

The Kingsbury, Indiana native received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Information from University of Indianapolis in 1995. In the summer of 1995 he served as an intern in the Butler University sports information office. 

A member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) since 1995, he currently is a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America Committee. Marhanka served on the media services staff for the 1997 and 2000 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Final Fours and also was a staff member for the 1996 and 1999 NCAA First Round events in Indianapolis. He has also worked at and served as host SID for numerous Division III and CCIW events during his career.
