Wheaton Bracket Madness - Women's Sports

Voting is now open for Wheaton Bracket Madness, a fun and unofficial way to crown the best men's and women's teams in Wheaton Athletics history. The competition will take place via fan voting on Wheaton's social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram), as well as the Wheaton Athletics Website. Voting for each round will be held on a daily basis this week so be sure to check back each day and submit your votes.

2007 WOMEN'S SOCCER
  • Won Wheaton's third NCAA Division III Championship in four years with a 27-0 record, the 27 wins was a NCAA Division III record
  • Won the CCIW Championship with a 7-0 record as Taryne Lee won the first of three-consecutive CCIW Player of the Year awards
  • Sophomore Taryne Lee was named the Division III Player of the Year and was joined by Bethany Barton and Kira Davis as All-Americans

2017 WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Wheaton won the CCIW Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the same season for the first time in program history
  • Jordan Tuin was the CCIW Track Athlete of the Meet at the 2017 CCIW Outdoor Championships
  • Tabitha Evans, the 4X100 Relay and 4X400 Relay all earn All-American recognition at Outdoor Nationals
2001 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • National Semifinalist with a 19-3 overall record, finished the year ranked fourth in Division III and was the first Wheaton women's soccer team to make the Division III "Final Four"
  • CCIW Co-Champions with a 6-1 conference record
  • Rebecca Mouw earned the second of two-consecutive CCIW Player of the Year awards and was named a Division III All-American for the third-consecutive year

2008 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • NCAA Division III Runner-Up with a 22-4-2 overall record, finished the year ranked No. 2 in Division III
  • CCIW Tournament Champions
  • Junior Taryne Lee won the second of three-consecutive CCIW Player of the Year awards and was named an All-American
 2008-09 WOMEN'S GOLF
  • The only Wheaton women's golf team to earn selection to the NCAA Division III Championships
  • Wheaton placed second at the CCIW Championships and Brittany Bronson placed second in the conference
  • Brittany Bronson was an All-Region selection and teammate Casi Blanton went on to earn Wheaton's only All-American selection in women's golf (2011)
2005-06 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
  • Posted a school record 25 wins with a 25-5 overall record
  • Made the deepest NCAA Tournament run in program history advancing to the Sweet 16
  • CCIW Champions (11-3) and CCIW Tournament Champions
1991-92 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
  • Compiled a 22-4 overall record to set a new school single-season record for victories
  • 14-2 CCIW record to win the conference championship, the first CCIW Title ever for the Wheaton women's basketball program
  • Jeanine Jankovsky named the CCIW Player of the Year
     
JANE NELSON REGION

1999-2000 WOMEN’S SWIMMING
  • Placed fifth at the NCAA Division III Championships and the 261.5 points scored at Nationals is the most ever by a Wheaton women's swim team at Nationals and Jon Lederhouse was named Division III Coach of the Year
  • Won the CCIW Championship and overall the team established 15 new varsity records
  • Kelly Stewart won the Division III Championship in the 50 and 200-yard freestyle events and was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle

1995-96 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
  • 22-5 overall record, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament
  • The 22-wins in the season tied the school record for victories in a single season
  • Nicole Merchant earned All-America recognition for the Crusaders
1999 WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
  • Placed 13th at the 1999 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships
  • Won the CCIW Championship for the first time in 10 years
  • Placed five runners in the top-10 at the CCIW Championships
2016-17 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
  • Posted a 24-5 overall record, tied for the second-highest win total in program history - advanced to NCAA Second Round
  • CCIW Champions with a 14-2 conference record and won the CCIW Tournament;
  • Katie McDaniels named CCIW Player of the Year and All-American
2006-07 WOMEN’S SWIMMING
  • Wheaton placed 11th at the NCAA Division III Championships
  • The Thunder won the CCIW Championship, winning 17 of the 18 events at the 2007 CCIW Swimming Championships
  • Produced three individual All-Americans (Aimee Adams, Katherin Burt and Kaitlin Marko) with four All-American relays

1982 WOMEN’S TENNIS
  • Finished third at the 1982 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships
  • The third place finish at Nationals is the highest finish ever for the Wheaton women's tennis program and highest finish ever for a CCIW program
  • Team produced two All-Americans - Jane Nelson and Laura Lindstrom
1999-2000 WOMEN'S TENNIS
  • Won the second of four-consecutive CCIW Championships
  • Made the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in the current format
  • Team produced four individual CCIW Champions and one doubles championship
MARILYN SCRIBNER REGION 
2006 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • Compiled a 24-2-0 overall record and won the 2006 NCAA Division III Championship
  • CCIW Champions and CCIW Tournament Champions as Laura Koontz was named the CCIW Player of the Year
  • Laura Koontz was named the Division III Player of the Year and was joined on the Division III All-America Team by Bethany Barton
2018 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • Placed 15th at the 2018 NCAA Cross Country Championships
  • Wheaton won the CCIW Championship for the second-consecutive year as Hannah Roeske and Aryn Embretson finished first and second respectively at the 2018 CCIW Cross Country Championships
  • Hannah Roeske and Aryn Embretson each earned All-American recognition
 2012 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • Compiled a 21-4-2 overall record and finished the season as a National Semifinalist and was ranked third in the final Division III poll of the season
  • CCIW Tournament Champions
  • Keri Shannon, Leah DeMoss and Laura Karsten earned All-America recognition
2019 WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
  • Placed sixth at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the highest finish in program history
  • Favor Ezewuzie was an All-American in the 100-meters, the 200-meters and the 100-meter hurdles
  • The 4X100-meter relay, Natasha Brown and Aryn Embretson each earned All-America recognition at the Division III Championships
2015-16 WOMEN'S SWIMMING
  • Won the CCIW Championship
  • Erin Bagley was named the Outstanding Participant at the 2016 CCIW Swimming Championships
  • Placed 10th at the 2016 Division III Swimming Championships as Kirsten Nitz won the National Championship in the 100-yard butterfly and two relays earned All-America recognition
2016 SOFTBALL
  • Posted a 32-14 record, setting a school record for victories in a single season 
  • Won the CCIW Softball Tournament for the first time in program history and earned the first NCAA Tournament bid in program history
  • Katie Thornton is the second player in conference history to be named the CCIW Player of the Year and CCIW Pitcher of the Year award; Thornton also earned All-America recognition for the second-consecutive season
2006 WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
  • Was the first Wheaton women's track & field team to win a CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championship
  • Kara Hoxworth won CCIW Championships in the discus & shot put, Brandi McNeil was a CCIW Champion in the javelin and Audrey Boothe was a champion in the heptathlon
  • Audrey Boothe (heptathlon) and Brandi McNeil (javelin) earned All-America recognition
     
MARTHA BAPTISTA REGION 
2004 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • Won Wheaton's first National Championship in women's soccer with a 25-1-0 overall record - the 25 wins was a school record at the time
  • Won the CCIW with 7-0 record and was CCIW Tournament Champion, as Jen Binger was named the CCIW Player of the Year
  • Jessica Elsen was named the Division III Player of the Year and was joined by Jen Binger on the Division III All-American team
2008-09 WOMEN’S TENNIS
  • Won the fourth of 10-consecutive CCIW Championships as Jordan Hook was named the CCIW Player of the Year for the third-consecutive year and Elizabeth Worsowicz was named the MVP of the CCIW Championships
  • Advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Team Tournament with 5-0 victories in both the first and second round
  • Senior Jordan Hook earned All-America recognition; Elizabeth Worsowicz and Hook earned All-America honors in doubles competition
2014-15 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
  • Posted a 24-4 overall record, tying Wheaton's single-season record for victories and finished the year ranked 18th in the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll
  • Won the CCIW Championship with a 12-2 conference record and won the CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament
  • Katie McDaniels earned WBCA honorable mention All-American recognition

 1983-84 WOMEN’S SWIMMING
  • Placed seventh at the NCAA Division III Championships
  • Finished first at the Chicago Metro Conference  Championships and the team set 13 varsity records that season
  • Melody Hopkins finished second in the 200-yard backstroke at the Division III Championships and the team had four relay All-Americans
2017 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
  • Placed 15th at the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships
  • Won the CCIW Championship with a record low score of just 17 points
  • Hannah Roeske earned All-America recognition and finished first at the 2017 CCIW Cross Country Championships
 2011 WOMEN’S SOCCER
  • Posted a 23-2-2 record and was the 2011 NCAA Division III Runner-Up, ranked second in the final Division III poll of the season
  • Won the CCIW Championship and the CCIW Tournament as Jaime Orewiler won the second of two-consecutive CCIW Player of the Year awards
  • Jaime Orewiler was named the Division III Player of the Year and was named an All-American with Laura Karsten and Keri Shannon
1989 VOLLEYBALL
  • Won the 1989 CCIW Championship, the only CCIW Title in program history
  • Was 7-1 in conference play and defeated Elmhurst 3-1 (15-9, 5-15, 15-11, 15-9) in the CCIW Tournament
  • Made the second NCAA Tournament appearance in program history
