Wheaton women's tennis to face Grinnell College in NCAA Regional in St. Louis

Wheaton, Ill. –The Wheaton Thunder women's tennis team will participate in a Regional of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship this weekend in St. Louis, Missouri. The Thunder will be competing in the six-team regional to be hosted by Washington University in St. Louis (WashU). Wheaton earned its spot in the postseason tournament by winning the CCIW Tournament with wins against Carthage College and North Central College.

Wheaton (16-5) will face Midwest Conference champions, Grinnell College (16-6) on Thursday, May 7 in a First Round match of the tournament. Grinnell, ranked 30th in the current ITA Division III rankings, earned its NCAA Tournament berth by defeating  Lake Forest College for the Midwest Conference title.

The Wheaton-Grinnell victor will face the winner of another First Round match on Thursday between Kenyon College (18-5) and Rose-Hulman (13-8). The Second Round match will be played on Friday in St. Louis. Thursday's third First Round match will feature Hope (16-7) playing Ohio Northern (18-4), with the winner advancing to play defending NCAA Division III Champions, WashU (17-3) in the Second Round.

Second Round matches will be played on Friday and the victors from Friday's two Second Round matches will play each other in a Third Round match on Saturday. The winner of Saturday's Third Round match will compete at the eight-team NCAA Division III Championship Finals that begin May 18  at the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Wheaton will be making its 13th appearance in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Team Championship. Head coach Jane Nelson's program is 10-12 all-time in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Wheaton's most recent appearance in the NCAA Championship was 2019.
